A Small Cinema is a project that explores people’s memories and experiences of cinema, and looks at ways in which the cinema experience can be recreated in temporary spaces. Through a series of workshops and discussions we have collected hundreds of personal memories of cinema experiences, as well as explored ways in which a movie house can relate to it’s community and local businesses.

In 2009 we created 3 volunteer run Small Cinemas across Liverpool, including an old folks luncheon club run by young people from the local Rotunda college, a city centre shop space, and a local eduction centre for 8-10 year olds. In April 2010 we created A Small Cinema in Widnes with the help of local volunteers, who included the last projectionist to show a film at the last cinema in Widnes.
